Discussion regarding Clubs recent donations of tools and money to assist our Rotarian sisters and brothers who are experiencing the fallout of the fires that have occurred in California. Tools were purchased from Loew's in the amount of $1,000 and were delivered to a storage facility in Catalina. Tools from other clubs in District5500 are being picked up in Tucson, Casa Grande and Yuma and delivered by semi to southern CA. In addition, checks in the amount of $250 have been sent to two Rotary Districts in SoCal.
Cindy mentioned she recruited a rider for Tour de Cookie Saturday night at The Dove Mountain Rotary Monte Carlo fund raiser. Gwen is the head of the local Alzheimer' Association and was guest speaker at the event. She was also one of the top high jumpers in the United States during her days at Kansas University and jumped professionally in Europe!

Christine says we are set to go for club CPR training in March, but all members interested MUST complete online certification. It is believed John is the only one currently AREST certified.
Dan says we are in need of sponsors for the Tour de Cookie fundraiser as that money is pure profit. John confirmed a $1,000 donation from his kids, owners of Tucson Insurance Associates.
Presentation:
Marana Vista Academy will be the newest high school in the Marana Unified School District in August. The concept for the curriculum will be as innovative as the facility according to Principal Laura Goligoski, focusing on personalized learning. The building was acquired in 2020 and was the previous urgent care center on Silverbell. The State provides funding for new construction, but the renovation of the urgent care center into a high school was the first time the funds have been used for that purpose. The District is appreciative of the flexibility.
Young children are filled with curiosity, but sometimes it wanes as they age. The concept for the new high school will be to re-engage and re-energize to stimulate their inquisitiveness. Other goals are to help struggling students, develop collaboration and strengthen critical thinking through rigorous academics, apprenticeships and with each student developing a capstone project.
Marana Vista Academy will also offer career and technical education programs in dental hygiene, lab assistance, business and cybersecurity.
The school will collaborate with MHS and MVHS to allow students to participate in extracurricular activities such as sports, drama, band, chess and orchestra. School hours will be flexible to allow students these opportunities.
