Club members' 'happy bucks' celebrate travel adventures, time with family, and summer thunderstorms.
Meeting minutes for July 23, 2024 Marana Rotary meeting
Club President Andrea De La Cruz called the virtual-only club meeting to order at 7:02 a.m.
Happy Bucks
- Beckie: Enjoyed a drive and breakfast with her husband to the Marana airfield. The cafe there serves up a nice little breakfast.
- Don and Kathy: Kathy was relieved to make it back to Seattle despite the flight cancellations from the CrowdStrike meltdown that affected so many airlines. She managed to finish her trip from Washington D.C. and make it to Rhode Island, then to Charlotte, and then to Seattle with a little delay. Don is happy that Kathy made it back, and was looking forward to trying out a new restaurant with her in Seattle.
- Harold: Is starting to feel better but still hasn't recovered fully from a summer Covid infection.
- Christine: Was able to spend time with family which "fills me up" every time.
- Mark: Was able to catch "Hamilton" in Phoenix with his family, and during intermission just so happened to learn that President Biden was going to bow out of the presidential race -- cue "One Last Time" from "Hamilton".
- Dan: Attended a "welcome" assembly for MUSD's 85 new teachers with representatives from the Marana Chamber and Marana mayor.
- Andrea: Is happy about coming weekend when she can cook with her mom.
- Laura: happy for summer thunderstorms and the staccato of rain drops on the roof.
Announcements
- Andrea reminded members who "own" one of areas of emphasis developed from our club Visioning session need to have edits done by July 31. Andrea will make the edits and then circulate our final plan to members.
- Beckie reported that we have ended our credit card processing agreement with Eliot, and will soon be pivoting to PayPal.
- Christine noted that the program "Impact Marana" is accepting applications through July 31, 2024, to participate. One time a month for eight months, participants learn about a unique aspect of Marana.
- Laura said the Marana Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications to be "Guest Editor" for their weekly newsletter. This was one of the "marketing" opportunities identified during our strategic planning "Visioning" sessions. Laura will send Andrea the link and any pictures that would be helpful for a guest column about our club.
- MCAT Star Student program will continue, and our first student recognition will be September 17 at MCAT, followed by a club service project at the Marana Food Bank.
- Additionally, Andrea found out the cost of backpack program for students facing food insecurity is $17/backpack. The club will need to discuss further what level of commitment it wants to pledge for that program.
Finally, no meeting next Tuesday, July 30, since it is the fifth Tuesday of the month.
The meeting was adjourned with the "Four-Way Test".
