Our Zoom-only, business meeting was called to order by President Cindy Dooling. We then recited the “Pledge of Allegiance”.
Happy Bucks
Since we missed “Happy Bucks” last week, we led the meeting with them. Here’s what club members were happy about:
- Harold – happy and hoping for rain, plus he got to spend time with granddaughter.
- Peter – having fun with a 3-D printer.
- Beverly – starting new role a field supervisor for a Texas educational company for helping new teachers.
- Bob – grandkids, grandkids, grandkids …
- Mike – for the rain shower this morning which revealed the smells of the desert.
- John – happy that is overcast and cooler out, and for the club’s re-starting of orientation meetings for new members.
- Kathy – really happy for the rain.
- Don – happy he finished the new biography of Mark Twain, which was really good and only 1,000+ pages long.
- Mark – was attending a school summit conference and ran into his high school track coach, who had just retired from education after 50+ years (wow!).
- Laura – happy that the fall semester started at UA.
- Andrea – happy about the weather, felt like “fall”.
- Cindy – saw seven deer out back of their house.
Announcements
After Happy Bucks, President Cindy updated the club on latest, including:
- The Rotary Club of Tucson’s Senegal Project, to which we pledged $1,000.00, will launch the project in mid-December. A delegation of members will leave for Senegal on December 13.
- The No UXO project reached their goal of raising $50,000 for this year. And, they received a generous $3 million grant from the Conrad Hilton Foundation. A portion of the grant will go directly toward the No UXO efforts. Our club’s longtime friend and form club member Randy Brooks’ club in Washington donated $1,000.00.
- For the upcoming District 5500 Conference, our will be a “Friend” of the conference at a cost of $100. Our Club’s Board voted to spend up to $500.00 for the hospitality room for the district conference, Sept. 26-27. Laura tentatively planning to attend the Council on District Legislation’s annual business meeting of the District 5500.
- District 5500’s Peacebuilders first meeting will be Wednesday at 6 p.m.
- Jim Click Raffle – Our club has been approached to sell the tickets – proceeds stay with our club.
- More Than a Bed development director Cathleen is Rotarian and interested in joining our club. More Than a Bed is also interested sponsoring a cookie booth.
- Tour de Cookie idea – Don had a great idea that during “packet pick-up” ask riders to bring brand new socks, underwear for More Than a Bed.
- Romanian Friendship Exchange planning – this year, a Yuma student studying abroad in Romania and Romanian student is studying here. Plans in the works for a Romanian Friendship Exchange for adults.
- Marana Food Bank – Cindy has reached out to the food bank to see we can volunteer. John noted that the original founders of our club also started the Marana Food Bank.
- The Rotary Vocational Fund – Bob urged the club support the vocational fund.
We then adjourned the meeting with the Four-Way Test.
